Foraging solitarily, these terrestrial ants have inconspicuous nest entrances usually in crevices in pavements, lawns and backyards, sometimes in open fields at the base of small shrubs and trees. They feast on the elaisomes of several plant seeds. They also are predatory and feed on ants, termites and ocassionally caterpillars. Easily identified by their greenish purple metallic lustre on their cuticle, these ants are one of the most common ants on eastern coast and central Australia. Their habits of being docile and very sumbissive nature makes studying and rearing them very convenient.
